Amnezia VPN: Wi-Fi Map — Privacy Policy
What this app collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to delete.
Amnezia VPN: Wi-Fi Map ("the app", "we") maps the Wi-Fi speed and latency tests you run onto a floor plan of your home or office, compares rooms and router positions, and explains the results with AI. "VPN" is part of the Amnezia brand name only: the app does not create a VPN tunnel or offer a VPN service, uses no VPN or Network Extension technology, and collects no VPN data. It does not scan Wi-Fi networks or read network names or signal strength from your device.
In short
- Floor plan images, photos, maps, test results and AI answers are saved on your device. AI features send the map summary described below to our server when you use them.
- There is no account, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDK, and no selling or sharing of data for advertising.
- Our server knows your install only by a random ID the app creates, and keeps usage counters for it.
- When you use an AI feature, the names you typed and your test numbers are sent to our AI service to write the answer. Plan images, photos and your location are never sent.
- The introduction page receives a success marker only when the device conditions described below pass.
The individual readings stay on your device. The app also uses the combined result to decide whether to offer a rating invitation on its first launch.
- You can download your server-recorded install details, usage counters and AI reports, or delete your server data from the app.
What stays on your device
The app saves these in its private storage on your device:
- floor plans you import from Photos or Files, photos you take of a plan, and plans you sketch on a blank grid;
- rooms, router spots and network labels you type, such as "Home 5 GHz", and router addresses;
- every test result, AI report and AI chat;
- your settings and a short local list of recent connection errors that helps you describe a problem to support.
Floor plan images, photos and router addresses are not sent to our server. When you use AI, selected names, plan positions and measurement values are included in the summary described under AI features; the original map file is not uploaded.
Exports you create (CSV, PDF or image) are shared only where you choose to send them.
What reaches our server
Install identity
When an app-server feature needs it, the app creates a random install ID and a signing key in your device's Keychain. It registers the install ID, the public half of the key, the platform (iOS), the app version and build with our server, which records when the install was first and last seen. Requests to these features are signed with this key to protect your allowance. The app does not send your name, e-mail address, Apple ID, advertising identifier or device serial number with this registration. Support requests can include the contact details you choose to provide, as described below.
Speed tests
App versions 1.1 and later send random download and upload test data directly to Selectel’s dedicated speed measurement service at https://speedtest.selectel.ru and time TCP connections to that service. Selectel receives your connection IP address, transfer data and timing. The app does not send it your floor plans, map labels, AI questions, install identity or launch-context observations. Results are calculated on your device and stay there.
Earlier versions download and upload random data to our app server, which counts each install’s daily transferred bytes to keep traffic within fair limits. This route remains available for those versions.
If you enter a router address, the app also times connections to that address on your local network. This traffic stays on your network and is not sent to us.
AI features
When you tap Analyze or ask the AI a question, the app sends a summary of the selected map: the names and notes you typed (map, floors, rooms, router placements and network labels), room outlines, router positions and test spots as positions on the plan, your test numbers and thresholds, and your question with the earlier messages of that chat. Our app server sends this input through the Gowalk AI gateway to generate the answer and returns it to the app. Our app server does not store the summary, the question or the answer. It counts AI requests per install per day to apply the daily allowance, and holds a short lock while a request runs so that one install cannot start several at once.
AI answers are generated and can be wrong; check important decisions yourself.
Reports about AI answers
If you report an AI answer, the server stores the reason you chose, your optional note and an excerpt of the answer, linked to your install ID, so we can review the quality and safety of AI answers.
Network information
Our server and our network provider receive your IP address when the app connects, as with any internet service. The server uses it only to limit request rates against abuse: it keeps counters keyed by your IP address (for IPv6, by its network prefix) and deletes them after two days. Our application does not log IP addresses with requests.
Introduction and rating invitation
The introduction screens load from our website at https://amneziaapp.site through managed Web Flow delivery. Loading them sends ordinary web request data, such as your IP address, together with the app identifier, language, platform and launch parameters. The app's introduction page sets no cookies and contains no advertising or analytics code.
Before loading the introduction, the app checks the following conditions on your device:
- whether the App Store storefront is Russia;
- whether the device reports registration on a cellular network;
- whether each of these URL schemes can be opened:
yandexmaps,yandexnavi,yandex,vk,wildberries,ozonandgosuslugi, and whether at least one is available.
The app checks scheme availability without opening another app. The combined result passes only when the storefront is allowed, cellular registration is available and at least one configured scheme is openable. An unavailable or unconfirmed required condition does not pass. Only a confirmed pass adds one success marker to the introduction page URL; otherwise that marker is absent. Individual check results, scheme availability, carrier details and phone numbers are not sent in that URL. The marker does not establish your identity, how you installed the app or why you use it.
The app collects these readings once while it is running and needs an introduction URL, keeps the snapshot in memory and reuses it if the introduction is retried. Opening the app after completing the introduction does not collect them. The success marker is added only to introduction URLs; it is not sent in a separate observation request or attached to products, AI, legal, support or speed-test requests. The app does not save the readings in preferences or a database, log them or send them to analytics. Earlier versions sent individual yes/no results and a combined result with introduction URLs.
On the first launch only, the same combined result can make a native invitation to rate the app appear above the introduction. Accepting asks Apple to show its rating sheet; Apple decides whether the sheet appears. Declining or closing the invitation leaves the introduction and access to the app unchanged. The app keeps a local marker that the first-launch opportunity has been used, so an app update or a later launch does not create another invitation. The marker does not contain the observations or a submitted rating. The app does not send an analytics event about your choice.
Support requests
If you send a message through the support page, its form receives the name, e-mail address, subject and message you provide. The support service stores the submission and sends it by e-mail to our private support mailbox so we can answer your request. These messages are separate from the install records available through the app's server-data controls. You can request access or deletion of a support message through the same support page.
Who processes data for us
- DigitalOcean hosts our app server. Our website and app-owned service requests use managed Web Flow delivery for our domain.
- The Gowalk AI gateway processes AI requests sent by our app server.
- OpenAI, which provides the language models our AI service uses to answer AI requests.
- Selectel, which receives Internet speed-test traffic from version 1.1 as described above.
We do not sell personal information and do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
How long we keep it
- Install record, public key and daily usage counters: until you delete your server data.
- Reports about AI answers: 180 days, or until you delete your server data.
- Rate-limit counters: two days.
- One-time request codes that stop replayed requests: about 15 minutes.
- The native launch-check snapshot remains in app memory for the current process. The first-launch handled marker remains on your device across launches and app updates. It contains no check results or rating.
- After you delete your server data, the server keeps the deleted install ID and its public key so that requests signed with the deleted key are refused. Temporary rate-limit counters expire after two days. Service-wide AI totals remain without your install ID.
Your choices
In the app, open Settings → Your data:
- Download my server data gives you a copy of your install details, daily usage counters and AI reports, which you can then keep or send with Share my server data.
- Delete my server data erases your install record, usage counters and AI reports from our server. Maps on your device stay.
- Delete all maps on this device removes floor plans, tests, AI results and chats from your device.
Deleting the app removes its maps and files from the device, but does not delete server records. The install signing identity is stored in Keychain and can remain after the app is deleted; Delete my server data removes that local identity after the server confirms deletion. You can also ask for access or deletion, or ask a privacy question, through the support page.
Permissions
- Photos: the system photo picker gives the app only the pictures you choose.
- Camera: used only when you choose to photograph a paper plan.
- Local network: requested only when you enter a router address, to time connections to it.
The app does not use location services or contacts, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Children
The app is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If the app's data practices change, we will update this page before the change reaches the app.
